Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF) (formerly The Indian Institute of Bankers), was established on 30th April 1928 as a professional body of Banks and Financial Institutions licensed under the provisions of Section 26 of the Indian Companies Act 1939. The initiative to establish the Institute was taken by eminent bankers, businessmen and leading industrialists of India.
With its membership of over 650 institutional members and over 2.5 lac individual members, is the largest Institute of its kind in the world and is working with a mission "to develop professionally qualified and competent bankers and finance professionals primarily through a process of education, training, examination consultancy /counseling and continuing professional development programs".
The Institute has almost all the banks and financial institutions - public sector, private sector, foreign, cooperative, Regional Rural Banks - as members in addition to IT companies and individuals working in the banking and finance industry. The Institute offers a number of professional courses in banking and finance and is managed by a Governing Council consisting of Chairmen of different banks and eminent academicians manage the Institute. The Education and Research Committees of the Institute consist of eminent practitioners in the field.
Courses offered by the Institute include JAIIB /CAIIB examination, Diploma in Treasury and Risk Management, Diploma in Banking Technology, Diploma in International Banking & Finance, Diploma in Bank Financial Management, Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Advising and MBA (Banking & Finance). Various Certificate examinations are also offered by the Institute. The Institute has also been attempting to foster continuing professional development by organizing Lectures/Conferences/Seminars for dissemination of knowledge.
The Institute is having collaboration arrangements with reputed international bodies like Canadian Institute of Bankers, Securities Institute, Australia, World Bank, Washington, American Bankers' Association and Asian Institute of Management, Manila and IIMs / XLRI, India for offering courses and CPD programmes to banking & finance professionals.
The Institute publishes a monthly magazine named IIB-VISION, a Quarterly magazine BANK QUEST and a e-newsletter FIN@QUEST through its portal www.iibf.org.in. A number of publications in the field of banking and finance have been brought out by the Institute.
